About

Making Marks is a project of Kevin Gerich. I live in central Massachusetts (Go WooSox!) with my spouse and two cats.

This is where I write about thoughts on technology and creativity and the tensions between them, plus detours into whatever I'm making.

I'm an Urban Sketcher and can sometimes be found hanging out with the fabulous Urban Sketchers Boston. Here's some of my latest artwork.

Decades ago, I helped shape the evolution of Mozilla products and I was in the mix of global contributors when Firefox was born. My project Pinstripe (in collab with Stephen Horlander) became the default theme on Mac Firebird (aka Firefox) in November 2003 and landed in Thunderbird in March 2004. You can explore my blog posts from that era here.

I used to work for publishing companies and helped manage the transition from print-centric publishing to digital first. Now I work for a public university as a director of a small team of developers. I don't take consulting gigs.

You can get in touch with me on Mastodon and I unfortunately feel the need to maintain an Instagram presence.
